The Autumn/winter 08 catwalk trends had such a variety of looks, we were spoilt for choice for which dynamic and creative make up look to go for this season. But, one image captured my attention and inspired me beyond belief! An image that will stay with me for many moon's to come! That was the Yves saint Laurent show. Lean and mean silhouettes ( pic 1 ) walking down the catwalk with what can be described as the sultriest and sexiest hair and make up look ever..!! All models wearing identical black bowl wigs and the glossiest black lip creating the ultimate statement!! ( Pic 2 and 3 )

YSL was not the only ones to bring out the dark side, many designers were influenced by 'dark romance'. A form of black makeup, be it lips, eyes or nails was featured everywhere. Balenciaga, ( pic5 ) Lanvin, ( Pic 9 ) Giles, ( Pic 7 ) Nathen Jenden to name a few! Many variations of this 'stark minimalism', architectural tailouring, 'gothic drama' was seen on the catwalks, and what better to bring out this darker and dangerous side than a splash of black.!!

I have to say that from a make-up point of view, that this season 'Black IS the new Black'.
Whether you keep it simple and follow your upper or lower lash line with a flick of liner ( as seen at Luella pic 8) or go for the full on 'Power dressing of the eyes' ( like at Balenciaga, Givenchy, Yohji Yamamoto pic 4 .) The eyes are an easy way to re create this season's bold black statement with your makeup! If you are that tiny bit more daring, and the 'futuristic', 'stark and simple' elements of this season's collections inspired you, then boldly and bravely- go ahead and rock that black lip...!!!!!!!!
