Originality

Whitney

These days originality is almost impossible to find even with fashion and it’s supposed to be the most creative industry in the world! Everything is becoming so cliché because everything’s already been done! There is so much repetition it’s really difficult to find something fresh, new and unique. Even music has gone down the pan! It’s at a serious block, the genres are so limited! You can’t go to a club and hear a variety anymore. There used to be like 7/8 different types a music playing all in one night and now all you hear is House and RnB!

Something that really pisses me off is that High end fashion has somehow managed to blend with high street fashion which in my opinion completely defeats the purpose of high fashion and makes it less special. Because after all it’s the unobtainable fantasy of high fashion that makes us more intrigued. However, high street trends seem to have merged and I must admit I’m actually happy about this because I’m the type of person who enjoys shaking things up a bit and combining different styles and now you can be punky, classy, space age and sheik all at once. The crazy thing is now is that people are so out they’re in! Fashion is limitless at the moment you can’t go wrong. Geeks the new black! And wrongs the new right!

Are models getting shorter? Let’s face it the criteria necessary to be a runway model must definitely be narrowing because I’ve noticed that in all the fashion shows I’ve been to this year the models have been really short. I’m confused because as far as I knew there was a height starting point of 5ft 8! I don’t understand what’s going on! I mean I’m 5ft 3 and for me to be almost eye level with a model that has just walked off the catwalk there’s definitely a problem!

I’ve noticed that a lot of male models aren’t really presenting themselves in ways that make them suitable for high fashion, and fill their portfolios with photos solely of their bodies just showing off muscles and posing seductively, lacking variety and limiting themselves to editorial/catalogue modelling. Nevertheless, most up and coming models as a whole are lacking fashion education! They don’t know how to approach casting and show up before even researching what the job is about oblivious to the criteria necessary!
